Shirley Pickton and Darren Carollo started The World Classroom 10 years ago while both working at Lincoln High School in Dallas. Both travel-lovers they felt that the best way they could teach their material and impact the students lives was to give students who had no means to travel a way in which to EXPERIENCE the world. Initially started by private funding, they one day hope to make the The World Classroom a nation-wide organization helping students across America, and reaching people around the world!
Shirley Pickton
Always one to encourage, inspire and guide, Shirley Pickton created the World Classroom as a way to combine her love for both education and travel. Her passion, hard-work, resourcefulness and dedication as has made The World Classroom possible- her ingenuity, patience and compassion has made it a success.
She currently resides with her husband (and daughter Lilly) in Cleveland, Ohio. She has worked in education as a teacher and mentor for over 30 years and has impacted the lives of countless students... more to come!
Darren Carollo
A crucial and integral part of The World Classroom, Darren is a Science teacher at Lincoln High School and a devoted Husband and proud father of two young children. He is our Technology and Science expert and he guides the students through their experiments and tasks with a smile. His dedication to the World Classroom is evident by how hard he works to make sure things get done.
