The China Experience

Eight African-American students traveled to Beijing on January 30, 2005. On this excursion the students spread their wings in the far East and not only saw some of Asia's breathtaking sites, but they were able to interact with Chinese peers and teach each other using computer technology.

The American students lead Chinese students through multiple activities displaying culture of the United States such as music, cuisine, art, social behaviors, sports, medicine, etc.

When arriving in Beijing the Chinese students held an assembly welcoming the students with a dance and singing performance and the American students also did a little song and dance. Both side were amazed at how different in style they were, but both had a great time!

 PROGRAMMING IN BEIJING

The kids used both hands-on activities and  the PC based applications Visual Ranking and Seeing Reasoning (developed by Intel) to really show western culture.

Harbin, China: Town Made of Ice

The students traveled to Harbin, China- a remote and icy city near the border of Russia. There they met with locals and students their age, conducted science experiments and engaged in the local traditions and customs.

This is the city built of ice that the students got to experience. Here is a video that we did NOT take but show the slides at the ice castle in Harbin, China.
